Hi everyone! I'm back to share with you my entry for the latest Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge, and this week the challenge was to use lace on our project.

Well, I didn't have any physical lace to use on my project, so I didn't actually use lace. Instead, I used the inspiration of a lacey look for my card, and to me, the first thing that came to mind was spider webs! I knew I wanted a Halloween theme to my card and the warm glow of the candle in this photo reminded me of jack-o-lanterns! So, there you have it! I absolutely LOVE the end result of my card and I think the inspiration from the photo is absolutely apparent. I'm gonna link this up to the challenge real quick (since I'm under a tight deadline here!) and then I'll be back to add more details of how I created this card.

Ok, I'm back! So, once I figured out that I wanted to use spider webs as my lace I went in search of paper. Well, I found some awesome paper in my stash from a Martha Stewart photo mat Halloween pad that I found last year at Michaels that had the spider web print on a vellum-type paper that you could see through! This was brilliant, because I knew immediately I'd layer it over some orange card stock, and while the effect is subtle, you can definitely see an orange glow behind it (a little better in person that the photo.)
Next I looked through all my Paper Smooches Halloween stamps and realized I'd never played with the jack-o-lantern stamps from the Spookalicious set! I thought featuring these stamps would be a great way to keep to the orange and black theme of the card. I really wanted to keep the card to those two colors. All the stamping I did with black embossing paper so the images would really stand out against the spider web paper.
I wanted to also bring in the scallops from the top edge of the lace in the inspiration photo and decided to use the scallop border stamp from the Fascinators set along the inside edge of the card. I've never tried this before but I love how it turned out, and I think it's the perfect way to create some interest when the mat layers are all the same shape. I embossed the scalloped edge as well.
Then, I added the Happy Halloween sentiment on a banner, also from the Fascinator set, and used dimensional adhesive to pop up the jack-o-lanterns from the card.
As a small final touch, I took the cute little spider, and embossed him to the upper left corner of the card. All done!
I only wish that I had some adhesive that isn't visible through the vellum. Any suggestions??
