Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge - Entry No. 2 - You're My Universe

I made a second card for the current Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge. It's amazing how much crafting can get done when a hurricane closes school for 3 days and counting - and the best part about college classes being cancelled is that there are no makeup days! Although, I was supposed to play my flute recital on Monday and I definitely have to make that up, although who knows when that will be.

Anyway, back to the challenge - this was the picture perfect challenge, to make a card based on this inspiration picture:

 

I used the same colors as I did for my last card, but instead of a Halloween card I made a birthday card for my fiance  - he's turning 40 tomorrow, November 1! Here's the card:

 

You know, the only thing I dislike about the Tombo liquid glue is that, even though it dries clear, you can still totally see it when it dries, and I'm not always so good about gluing perfectly. It's also still sticky. Does anyone have a recommendation of an alternate glue that is similar to the Tombo but that doesn't leave such a mess? My fiance is telling me I simply need to repeat 2nd grade art class since we were clearly taught how to apply glue meticulously using a toothpick. I must have missed that lesson, lol.

I decided to add in the Earth at the end even though it's outside the color scheme because the card needed that something extra. This is a pretty basic card, but I got to play with a stamp set I hadn't yet used. I didn't take a photo of the inside, since I had already filled it out, but I also stamped 'Happy Birthday' on the inside using a different PS set. He likes his card (although I think he likes the previous Halloween card better!)

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge - Entry No. 1 - Happy Owloween

 

This week the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge is a Picture Perfect challenge - to make a card based on this inspiration picture:

 

I used the colors as my inspiration, although I focused more on a black background with only a small amount of grey. I had ribbon which was perfect and used the ribbon as a jumpng off point. Here is my card:

Lawnscaping Challenge #44 - Try a New Technique

I FINALLY got to sit down tonight to make a card for this challenge! Crazy busy week at school getting ready for my first DMA recital (which is next Monday!) - so things have been busier than normal lately. I wasn't sure I'd get a card made in time for this Lawnscaping challenge, but, again, just barely squeezed one in!

So, I tried three new techniques for this card:

1) I used flocking powder for the first time ever, on the turkey's feathers - I love it!

2) I used two color distress inks together to stamp the leaves in the background (I saw Kelly Marie do this on an old Lawn clippings video but never tried it until now.) I really like the look of the two colors together - looks so much more like actual leaves do!

3) I've had the 'Sew Easy' ribbon tool for many months now and have never used it. The ribbon I used was from the dollar zone at Target.

By the way, it's not actually crooked in real life - I took the photo at a weird angle to avoid getting a shadow over it. I really need to work on my photography skills, lol.

Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge - Eternal Love

 

This week's Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge is based on the following color scheme:

 

 

Here's what I came up with:

That being said, I actually really like this card! I used papers from Martha Stewart's Haunted photo mat pad, which incorporated all of the colors except for the red. I had the idea to use a Ranger Ink Color Wash spray (the only red color I have is Cranberry) to give the impression of splattered blood. The Paper Smooches stamps used came from the set Spookalicious.

 

Paper Smooches Sparks Design Team Application!!

I've decided to apply to be on the design team for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenges! I adore my PS stamps - they are so cute and Kim Hughes (the designer behind them) has a very unique style - cute, whimsical, fun - words I could also use to describe myself, hence why I like these stamps so much! As part of the application we are supposed to make at least one card (but can submit several) based off of any of the previous Sparks challenge inspiration photos. As the challenge blog itself is relatively new to me and I've only participated in a couple of the challenges, I decided to dig back to some of the inspiration challenges from last year to see what I'd missed out on.

The first photo that struck me was this simple and masculine-ish image from a challenge last October.

Being that it is fall, the orange and brown colors immediately jumped out at me and inspired me to make a simple fall card. This could very well be the most CAS (clean and simple) card I've ever made and I'm in love with it. I used the fox from the new Paper Smooches Chilly Chums set, which also came with that cute little 'hello' sentiment which I placed inside of a speech bubble from Lawn Fawn's set A Birdie Told Me. I used papers from Lilybee design's Autumn Spice 6x6 paper pad and the twine is from Lawn Fawn's Lawn Trimmngs. That's it! Clean, simple, and super cute! Here's my card:

 

I seem to be on a roll with CAS cards tonight - weird! The second card I made was also inspired by a Sparks challenge inspiration photo from last October with this photo here:

Now, I realize that these are tomatoes but, sadly, I do not own the Paper Smooches Vegtastic set yet (which would have been perfect), so instead, I decided to go with the pumpkin from the Spookalicious set. I didn't make a spooky card at all... I was mainly inspired by all of the wonderful patterns in the photo so, since I stil had out my Lilybee designs Autumn Spice papers I decided to go with a fall theme and make a CAS thank you card. It's truly amazing how many different looks you can get with a single stamp set! As a finishing touch I added some Lawn Fawn Lawn Trimmings twine to the top of the card.

These two cards were really fun to make and different (much simpler) than the cards I normally make. I really like them and I hope you do, too!

Lawnscaping Challenge #43 - Texture

Once again, I am entering the Lawnscaping challenge at the last minute. I actually made my card yesterday, but today I decided to add some Glossy Accents to the ghosts. It's not my favorite card, but it qualifies for the challenge of using texture on your card. I heat embossed the spider webs, the spider and the ghosts and then added the glossy accents to the ghosts to make them look even more transparent.

Here is an inspiration photo made by guest designer Anastasia Teologlou - I love how she added the flocking to the bunnies to make them fuzzy!

Lawnscaping's Fall Blog Hop!!!

The idea was to use the photos from the Lawnscaping Blog Hop badge as inspiration for our card. As you can see, I took pretty direct inspiration - the pumpkin/rose arrangement from the top photo and also the barn from the bottom right photo. I already had some pigs stamped out from a previous project, so I went ahead and added them in.

This is the first blog hop that I've participated in and I just love Lawn Fawn and Lawnscaping Challenges!
