Lawnscaping Challenge #42 -Getting Texty

Wow, I had such a busy week that I had to wait until the very last minute to make a card for the current Lawnscaping Challenge - Getting Texty. The whole idea of this challenge was to use text in some way on your card.

 

 

The guest designer for this month is still Yainea, and here is the card she made to get us inspired:

 

 

Yesterday I scored some 6x6 My Mind's Eye paper pads at Michael's (so glad they are now carrying them!) and one was a pad of Halloween papers which had a bunch with text on them. I also got out a couple of my Lawn Fawn Halloween sets which I got over the summer and inked them up for the first time. I started out having no idea what to make and almost didn't even make a card for this challenge, but - at the last minute - it all came together and I think my very first Halloween card (ever, not just for this year) came out super cute. Of course, those ghosts are just adorable, so how could it not? Here is my card:

Today I am entering the Paper Smooches Sparks Cool Shades Challenge!

Kind of summery still, don't you think? Well, it only just hit fall two days ago....

 

I wanted to make a card for my cousin, Kristin, who just landed her first job teaching as a permanent sub for the year. We are all so excited for her - this is just the first step to what should be a promising career for her. So, here is my card:

 

I used a combination of Paper Smoches and Lawn Fawn Stamps and colored with my Copics. I think she'll like it!

Lawnscaping Challenge Entry no.2: Happy Birthday

 

 

I made another card last night to enter into the Lawnscaping Sketch Challenge this week. Today is my future sister-in-law's birthday so this card is for her. She and her brother always sing "Hippo birdie two ewes" when it's someone's birthday, so I decided to feature those animals in her card. I actually stayed pretty close to the sketch. I made a circle window on the front and placed the sentiment on the inside of the card instead so it wouldn't look cluttered. I decided to place the horizontal strip underneath rather than through the circle to add some color to the front of the card and use up some of the empty space. I have to admit that I am in love with how this card turned out! This was my first time making a window and this is definitely a technique I will return to. Have a fabulous birthday, Krista

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge - Retro

 

 

The theme for this week's Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge is retro. I've only got a few PS stamp sets, so I had a bit of a hard time coming up with a concept. I decided first to look through my paper stash for some retro-looking paper. Once I had that, I figured that the Toad matched the papers the best and then my fiance helped me come up with the sentiment. In the end, I think it's a really cute card and I'm happy with it.

 

Lawnscaping Challenge #41, Entry No.1: Happy Birthday!

This week was an exciting week - mainly because my birthday was on Wednesday! I am now officially 34! I love my birthday and it totally doesn't make a difference to me that I'm getting older - I still may as well be a 4-year-old when it comes to birthdays, that's how much I love them!

I went back to school this fall to start working towards my DMA (Doctorate of Music - for those of you who don't know, I'm a professional flutist) and it turns out that Wednesday was also Hayley's birthday (a girl I met at school who is from New Zealand.) Hayley and I discovered that we have a mutual obsession with owls and decided that, between sharing a birthday and loving owls, we have to be friends. I made an owl birthday card for Hayley and am entering it into the current Lawnscaping Challenge, which is to make a card based on a particular sketch.

 

 

Yainea (who is absolutely one of the most amazing card designers ever) is this month's guest designer (yay!) and she came up with this card to inspire us in this challenge:

 

 

This is actually my first time creating from a sketch, and while it was a little tricky it was also nice to have some kind of guideline. As you can see, I rotated the card 90 degrees and placed the focus in the center (from top to bottom) of the card rather than more toward the top. I thought my particular card was better balanced this way. I'm going to try another couple of cards for this challenge still to see how else I can interpret this sketch. Anyway, I hope you like my card - Hayley loved it!

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge

Here's my first card ever for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge! Technically, it's past midnight, but if I can I will link it up anyway.

This card was my first time inking up ANY of my Paper Smooches stamps and, being that I've only got 4 sets (two being the Alphadot set and Word Salad) this challenge was challenging for me. I used what I had (Surf and Turf and both of the above mentioned sets) and, in the end, I am actually pleased with what I came up with. It doesn't matter to me that I didn't really get it finished in time (unless they meant midnight PT?? since that's when the submissions actually closed...?) I still wanted to play along and I can't wait to see what this week's challenge will be.

Oh, and I used the Salty Ocean Distress Ink Pad to stamp the water and Copics to color the fishies and seagull.

And... the one fishie facing the seagull is popped up, so that's actually a shadow showing up in the pic as a weird color, lol. I will take a better picture tomorrow in the daylight and add it in here.
