Lawnscaping Challenge #40: When Life Hands You Lemons...

 

Here is my last- minute entry to the Lawnscaping Challenge to make your own patterned paper. I was so excited about this challenge and I wish I had had more time to make more than one card, but I just started my DMA program at school this week and, well, it was crazy busy.

 

There were so many great examples made by the design team (as always.) Here is the inspiration card made by this month's guest designer, Julie Ebersole:

The past couple of days have really been a challenge for various reasons. When I was looking through my stamps to decide on what to do for my card, the Make Lemonade stamps from Lawn Fawn jumped out at me and making this card was very theraputic. For the lighter background paper, I used the small splashy stamp that comes in Sophie's Sentiments and stamped it over and over. The bottom paper used the lemon repeatedly to create the pattern. I had to take the photo in the basement which doesn't have the best lighting, so the colors look a little weird. I will take another photo tomorrow in the daylight. The inks I used both to create the solid paper colors and stamp the designs were Jenni Bowlin's Lemon Drops and Tim Holtz's Squeezed Lemonade from the Spring Distress Inks set. The coloring was done with Copics. I used Jessie's ABC's for the custom sentiment. I really like how it turned out - especially for doing it so last-minute. Making this card definitely helped to alleviate the stress from the past couple of days, so - mission accomplished!

On the road...

I've been on the road for the past few days accompanying my fiancé on his trip to North Carolina where he was singing a recital. It has been an interesting trip; We actually had to travel all the way down to Georgia first (from Long Island) so he could get in a couple of rehearsals with the pianist. His sister lives down in Athens so we managed to fit in a quick Overnight visit with her and her kids - it was great! We also spent a night with friends in Maryland and that was super fun. Bryce sang a beautiful program of British songs by Quilter, Finzi and some folk songs arranged by Britten yesterday at the Episcopal Church in Highlands, North Carolina. It was beautiful there, but boy oh boy was driving up and down the mountains scary! Now, we are driving back to New York - at this particular moment we are driving over the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I am actually blogging right now from my iPhone, an early birthday present from Bryce - he's the best! I can't believe I had survived so long without a smart phone! This phone is so much fun! Especially when riding in the car for long periods. Life is about to get crazy almost as soon as we get back late tonight (or very early tomorrow, depending upon how you look at it.) That is a whole other post, though! Hope everyone is well! Looking forward to snuggling with the kitties tonight! Bye for now!

Lawnscaping Challenge #39 - One Layer; Entry No.3 - Reach for the Sky

Here is my 3rd entry to the Lawnscaping Challenge - One Layer.

Hmmm, it's now November and I realize that I never added more details as I said that I would about this card. So, here goes, and better late than never. I used Lawn Fawn's Sunny Skies to make this card and did a ton of masking - A TON! For once I did not use any patterned paper (those who have seen my cards might have noticed that I am quite addicted to paper piecing and tend to use pp ALL the time!) and instead colored my card with Copics. Nothing fancy, just some basic coloring here.

Initially I made this card for Lawnscaping's One Layer challenge back in August, but now Kelly Marie has put out a contest to make cards with the opportunity (if selected) to be featured in their catalog and at their CHA booth. She asked that NO patterned paper be used at all and one of the sets she wants us to use is Sunny Skies - so how perfect is this card? Lol. I plan to make a few more - what a great opportunity to get out of my paper piecing habit and do some more coloring!

Lawnscaping Challenge #39 - One Layer; Entry No.1 - Thank You

Yay, it's that time again - entering the Lawnscaping challenge! This time, the theme is to make a one layer card - something I've never actually done, ever! I had so much fun using the masking technique for each of my cards, something else I've never done before! This challenge was a great way for me to step outside my box of paper piecing - instead, I put my awesome inks to use.

 

 

Julie Ebersole is this month's guest designer, and she created this beautiful summery card for inspiration:

 

 

I had to plan way ahead this time, because my fiance and I are on the road traveling and I didn't want to miss out on entering! I've got two and a half entries done so far - I've just got to find some time to color that final card! So, for right now I am linking up my first entry, which is actually the last of the three cards I made.

Along our travels, some guy friends of ours were kind enough to let us crash at their house for a night, so I made them this thank you card, which was a complete hit! They actually are always in need of thank you cards themselves (who isn't?) and have asked me to design some for them to buy! How awesome is that? Here is my card:

 

 

I absolutely love how it turned out - especially for a masculine card! I began by stamping the typewriter stamp (from Lawn Fawn's Just My Type.) The 'thank you' message on the typewriter paper is also Lawn Fawn - it's from one of the special thank you stamps they send you when you order directly from Kelly and Mike. Next, I masked the typewriter and stamped the chevron (Lawn Fawn's Chevron Backdrops) in VersaMark ink and sprinkled clear embossing powder on it and heated it to emboss it. Then, I inked over the entire card lightly with Antique Linen Distress Ink. After that, I masked the typewriter again and stamped the words 'thank you' (Lawn Fawn's Just My Type, Too) over and over, also with Antique Linen Distress Ink for a tone on tone look. After that, I removed the mask and did just a little coloring with an Antique Linen Distress Marker inside the typewriter image. I just love how you get three different shades from the same color ink! To finish, I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.
